WhatsApp users in India to get free Voice-calling feature

Whatsapp Voice-calling India

Whatsapp Voice-calling India

WhatsApp has rolled out its new free voice-calling feature to a select few users in  India which appears to be available on an invite-only basis, as of now. The invite-only basis basically means that users will get a call through WhatsApp from someone who already has the feature updated. The feature is also restricted to Android only and you will need the updated 2.11.508 version to access the app.

A reddit user posted saying that, “I can’t seem to send invites to other people, the only thing I can ensure is that it works in India for people running Lollipop 5.0.x on a Nexus 5. Other Indians without the earlier combo don’t get it.”

According to the images posted, users who receive the voice-calling feature will notice an icon for it, beside the Chats and Contacts tabs. The call interface seems to quite similar to a smartphone’s contact directory. The app keeps a record of recent WhatsApp calls as well.

Whatsapp Voice-calling India

Whatsapp Voice-calling India

Earlier, a few WhatsApp screenshots showcasing this voice-calling feature were leaked onlineWhatsApp also recently released WhatsApp for Web users which simply mirrors whats’s on your smartphone to the screen. WhatsApp for web is currently available through the Google Chrome browser and also supports Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone. However iOS users can’t access WhatsApp for web.

WhatsApp’s voice-calling roll-out comes soon after rival Indian app Hike rolled out for free voice-calling on 2G and 3G for their app. Of course in terms of user engagement, WhatsApp is ahead of it rivals. Facebook, which bought WhatsApp last year, recently revealed that the app has 700 million monthly active users and that over 30 billion messages are shared on WhatsApp everyday. With voice-calling feature coming soon, it’s likely that WhatsApp’s engagement number will rise further.

Samsung to launch Galaxy S6 in March

[contextly_auto_sidebar id="TUBHNJxqb3zcOqe7I04lOz6FWT0jsxVg"]

Galaxy-S6

Galaxy-S6

According to industry sources Samsung will unveil Galaxy S6 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015, scheduled for March 2-6. When contacted, a Samsung India spokesperson refused to comment.

The much-awaited Galaxy S6 will take over from Galaxy S5 as Samsung’s flagship smartphone and is expected to be a huge departure from its predecessor.

Launched last year in March, Galaxy S5 was a big disappointment for Samsung and missed the company’s first quarter sales expectations, which is a crucial test to assess any model’s sales for the entire year.

In an effort to stem the rot, the company unveiled the Galaxy Alpha, its first Android phone with a metallic body, within six months of Galaxy S5′s launch.

Samsung is expected to retain the same metallic design in its Galaxy S6, along with a 2K (1440×2560 pixels) screen. Taking forward the Galaxy Note Edge design, Samsung is said to be working on a Galaxy S6 variant with curved screens on both edges.

There is some uncertainty over the processor to be used in the upcoming smartphone, with reports suggesting Samsung is facing overheating issues due to the top-end Qualcomm chip it is testing. However, there have also been reports junking such speculation.

If the reports of overheating are true, Samsung would likely use its own Exynos chip in the international variant. This chip is said to be designed on 64-bit architecture. Samsung usually sells Exynos-powered smartphones in 3G-dominant markets.

Other likely features of Samsung Galaxy S6 features are 20MP rear camera, faster 4G radios, 32 and 64GB storage options, microSD card support and battery capacity of over 3,000mAh.

Samsung is also said to be working on add-on back panels that provide extra functionality to the smartphone. Among the back panels being developed is one that turns the rear casing into an e-book reader, while another is said to put all the S Health features on the back.

Galaxy S6 is crucial to Samsung’s profitability as the company’ mobile sales are being squeezed by the likes of Xiaomi at the bottom end and Apple’s new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus at the top end. The new iPhones have helped Apple post the biggest profit ever in corporate history recently.

Riding on stupendous iPhone 6 sales, some estimates say Apple may have overtaken Samsung for the numero uno slot though the final numbers are yet to be revealed. Samsung has a lot riding on the S6 launch after the failure of Galaxy S5 and is speculated to have delayed the launch a bit to ensure Galaxy S6 turns out to be a winner.

In its maiden flash sales, Micromax had claimed to have sold 10,000 units of Yureka within three seconds. However the first flash sale was criticised by many Amazon India customers due to the sudden unannounced price hike of the device and several users complained about the website crashing.

Later, the e-commerce company had apologised through their official Twitter handle for the erroneous price of Rs 12,499 instead of Rs 8,999. However, it seems that the price error has not been rectified completely. In the second flash sale of Yureka smartphone, few buyers spotted the device to priced at Rs 12,499.

The phone sports 1.4GHz MediaTek ‘True octa-core’ processors. The term octa core means, the phone has 8 cores into the processor which ease up the load. The phone has 1GB ram too.The performance specifications are 'good’; but on paper. You cant expect this phone to run heavy games while you are viewing your timeline on facebook. But for an average joe, this can do the thing. Chatting on whatsapp, updating status on facebook or playing games can be done smoothly.

The phone offers Wi-Fi, 3G , Bluetooth 4.0,and GPS.The price of the phone is 10047 rupees.
